Holiday Spirit: Melinda Morgan Kartsonis
December 22nd, 2007, 5:00 am, posted by Jan Norman, small-business columnist for the Orange County Register

The holiday spirit means different things to different people, as I have discovered over the past 20 Decembers of asking Register readers to nominate Orange County business owners who exhibit the holiday spirit 365 days a year. This post is the 10th in a series telling you about some of this year’s nominees for the Holiday Spirit Award. If you’ve read the others (if not, see links below), you understand what I mean, but generally these entrepreneurs are generous, kind and cheerful.

On Christmas Eve, and the Orange County Register will feature three selected by Register judges and name the top Holiday Spirit for 2007.

Employees of Morgan Marketing & Public Relations LLC in Irvine nominated their boss, Melinda Morgan because of her “sense of servitude.”

Morgan has donated almost $100,000 to a variety of charities, such as Koman for the Cure, Habitat for Humanity, Epilepsy Foundation, Girls Inc., Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She has also donated thousands of hours of pro bono work to more than 100 causes and organizations.

Both the Cycstic Fibrosis Foundation and American Lung Association have honored her for her volunteerism.

Morgan also does adopt-a-family and feed-the-homeless projects. She and her staff prepared dinner for the patients and families in the oncology unit at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Recently she matched employee donations to victims of the wild fires.

Morgan gives employees a gift on their hiring anniversary, holiday bonuses and grocery gift cards for July 4 and Thanksgiving.
